A Journey into the Future: First Edition of the Winter School on the Destiny of Humanity and Technology

From December 16 to 21, 2024, the Winter School “The Future of Thought: Science, Technology, and the Destiny of Humanity” took place—a week of discussions, ideas, debates, and workshops to explore how emerging technologies are reshaping our world. Organized with the support of the Cyber Social Lab, the event brought together researchers, students, and professionals to discuss key topics such as artificial intelligence, 6G, digital ethics, and the philosophical challenges posed by innovation.

Among the highlights was a keynote by our researcher Emanuela Tangari, professor of Philosophy of Technology and Philosophical Anthropology at the University of Rome Tor Vergata and co-organizer of the Winter School. She led a discussion around a crucial question: What truly makes a human being human? This theme intertwined philosophy, psychology, and ethics, encouraging reflection on our relationship with technology and how it shapes our identity, whether real or digital.

Thanks to workshops led by the CyberEthics Lab, participants delved into practical and theoretical issues related to privacy, data security, and social justice, while also addressing the impact on daily life and future policies.

The Winter School confirmed the need and importance of reflecting on the relationship between innovation, technology, and humanity, striving for a balance that must be continuously built with awareness.
